Downing Bolls
Anchor Downing's interest in the news business began as a young man on the east coast where his family lived at the time.
In junior high school he could be found at the Walter Reed Medical Center watching the Teletype machines at the hospital radio station.
It was ultimately a class trip to the studios of the Voice of America that really lit the fire for Downing to become a news broadcaster.
He went on to graduate from Southwest Texas State University with a degree in Journalism and a minor in Political Science.
Downing came to work for KRBC Radio as a newsman in 1976.
He then moved over to to KRBC TV in 1987 where he has reported, anchored and has been News Director twice over the years.
Downing is married and has two grown children.
Kyna Grigsby
Anchor Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Kyna left Texas to attend Syracuse University.
Deciding the cold weather didn’t agree with her, she transferred to a m uch warmer climate at the University of Miami where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism.
After college, Kyna taught middle school history and journalism for four years.
She then decided she would rather work in news and got a job as Assignment Editor at WPEC TV in West Palm Beach for two years.
Kyna moved closer to home and began work as an anchor and reporter with KRBC then ended up moving back Florida briefly, working as a reporter at WBBH TV in Fort Myers, before coming back to Texas.
Kyna is a member of several organizations including the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and the National Association of Black Journalists.
When not working, Kyna enjoys reading, exercising and spending time with family.
Stephanie Harris
KRBC West Texas Today Anchor A native of Taylor County, Stephanie is from Tye, Texas, Stephanie knew from a young age that she wanted to be a news reporter.
Inspired by her childhood hero Lois Lane, she got her start when she bumped into a KRBC TV weatherman back in 2005 and asked for a job at the station.
That led to a job at the station, staring as a camera operator, then working her way up into the news department an an assistant producer and then morning anchor.
Stephanie attends Abilene Christian University where she is working towards her Broadcast Journalism degree.
She is married and close with her family, so in her free time she enjoys spending time with them.
Darcy Dupree
Reporter Darcy’s first experience with reporting was during high school when a tornado hit downtown Fort Worth and she wanted to cover it.
Ever since she put together her first story she has loved reporting.
A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Darcy graduated Cum Laude from Texas Christian University where she majored in Broadcast Journalism with a double minor in Political Science and Education.
Darcy interned at WFAA-TV while at the same time anchoring and reporting for Fort Worth Focus, a city cable show.
Shelby Coates
Reporter/Weekend Anchor
Originally from the rolling hills of Nashville, Tennessee, Shelby Coates came to Abilene to study Broadcast Journalism at Abilene Christian University.
She wanted to be a journalist when she learned how much power the media has when it comes to bringing about social change and justice.
While attending ACU she worked as an anchor, reporter, producer and host at the university TV station, KXN. She also worked as the Video Editor for the school's Optimist Online News Videos.
She interned at WSMV TV in Nashville, and also did internships at three Abilene TV stations.
When Shelby is not working she tos stay involved in the Abilene community through NAACP, ACU, and the Minda Street Church of Christ.
Tim Johnston
Reporter
Originally from Plano, TX, Tim ventured off to study at Asbury College in Wilmore, KY. While there, he double-majored in Media Communications and Spanish.
While in Kentucky, Tim had to often defend his Texas roots and put up with jokes about losing the Alamo. But after graduating, he decided Texas was home and got back as quick as he could.
Tim decided TV was where he wanted to be after vising a TV station on a youth trip in high school. Since that time he has interned at WFAA-TV in Dallas, and worked as a radio commentator for his school's basketball games.
This August, Tim has the fortune of going to Beijing for the
2008 Summer Olympics , where he will with professionals from around the world.
With what little down time Tim has, he spends it with family and friends, and he loves to watch sports.
David Bacon
News Director
Having grown up in Abilene, David graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
He has worked for television stations in Midland/Odessa, San Antonio and St. Louis before returning to Abilene to work at KTAB TV in 1981.
Much of David’s time at KTAB TV was spent as the Sports Director.
As Sport Director, David won several awards for his coverage of local high school and college athletics.
He also had the opportunity to cover Super Bowls XXVIII and XXX as well as the 1995 Major League All-Star Game for KTAB.
David spent two years an Account Executive before being promoted to News Director in 2007. He oversees the news operation for both KRBC and KTAB TV.
