Abilene Philharmonic has new executive director

News Release from Abilene Philharmonic Association:

The Abilene Philharmonic Association
Welcomes
New Executive Director AND The Mozart Society

On May 1, 2017, Kevin Smith relocated from Palm Beach and his position with
the Palm Beach Symphony to Abilene, Texas to take on the role of Executive Director at
the storied Abilene Philharmonic Association.
Kevin Smith was named Executive Director of The Abilene Philharmonic after
E.D. Catherine Lansdowne vacated the position for a move to California. Kevin brings
with him to Abilene years of symphony experience as well as concert hall management.
Kevin recently bought a home in South Abilene and his fiancé will be joining him in this
move to Abilene.
The opportunity to grow a historic symphony into a celebrated main-stay in the
modern-day Abilene art revitalization, this is the most exciting part for Kevin and his
team at the APA.
In his two months and 24 days in Abilene, Kevin has catalyzed the APA’s modern
updates, launching a re-branding initiative and securing the APA’s future in what Kevin
dubs “The Arts Hub”. Kevin is excited to announce a contemporary APA initiative to
engage novice artists and community members that may not have had the opportunity to
participate in the elite organization previously. The Mozart Society will aim to engage,
educate, and include all community members under the age of 40 years who are interested
in musical art and supporting the musical artist community in Abilene.
The Abilene Philharmonic Board President, Patricia M. Ritschel-Trifilo, Ph.D,
said this about the organization’s new leader,
“The Abilene Philharmonic Association is thrilled to have Kevin Smith at our helm to
help us 'unleash the power of music' for Abilene and the surrounding communities. This
enthusiastic young man brings experience and talent in management, media, and
performance to the APA. He is a forward thinker with engaging ideas that we think will
revitalize our Philharmonic audience and provide new and innovative opportunities for
our school children, our young professionals, and our stalwart supporters. Kevin is a
wonderful addition to the Abilene community and we look forward to a strong and long
relationship.”
