Crawfish Not as Scary at AEF Cajun Fest

News Release from Abilene Education Foundation:

HAVE YOU HEARD? ABILENE IS GOING CAIUN! SATURDAY, APRIL 8TH TAYLOR COUNTY EXPO FAIR GROUNDS

Have you heard?! ABILENE IS GOING CAIUN! Last year, the Abilene Education Foundation expanded its Cajun Festival to an all-day, family fun event, and it was such a hit that we’ve decided to keep it that way. So, mark your calendars for Saturday, April 8th at the Taylor County Expo Center Fairgrounds. Presented by H-E-B and STAR DODGE.

Cajun Festival will once again celebrate the outstanding performing groups of AISD including Revolution Strings, Craig MS Jazz Band, AHS Jazz and Steel Drum Bands, and several elementary school choirs. We have also added a few community groups, including the Abilene Community Band (performing at noon). AEF will also announce the winners of the K-3rd grade coloring contest. The Master of Ceremonies and Zydeco music will be provided by Eric Logan with eMotion Entertainment.

The day will kick-off with a "Crawfish Crawl" 5k run/walk at 8:30 am, beginning outside Shotwell Stadium and ending on the field at the 50-yard line. Don't miss this chance to see yourself on the jumbo screen, as you cross the finish. Plaques and ribbons will be awarded for top finisher categories, including best costume. Our authentic Louisiana style Crawfish and Shrimp Boil (over 2 pounds of crawfish and shrimp per plate) will be served all day from 11 am-7:30 pm (or until we sell out, so come early). Crawfish not your thing? Don’t worry, we will have five fantastic food trucks on-site as well.

Awesome activities for kids! There will an inflatable park (not just your average jump house) for all ages, Knocker Ball, D-Bat, and Dublin Sodas available for additional purchase from AEF. New this year: In addition to all the activities listed above, there will be a free area called "AISD Education Village" where participants can have fun playing all kinds of interactive children's games provided by local non-profits and student groups, including ATEMS Robotics team, Children’s Arts & Literacy Festival, and so much more.
