Fun for the family at Storybook Saturday

GUESTS ARTISTS WILL HEADLINE STORYBOOK SATURDAY EVENT

 

ABILENE, TX – Come to downtown Abilene for “Storybook Saturday at Business Mercado” at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 14.

Spend the morning in the Adamson-Spalding Storybook Garden with famous illustrators/authors Mark Teague, David Shannon and Marla Frazee while they read books and draw. Afterwards, the artists will sign books in the garden available for purchase from the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature (NCCIL). Other activities at Storybook Saturday include face painting, balloons, bubbles, costumed characters and an art activity. The garden event is $5 per family. Families can register online at www.abilenecac.org. Families who register early will have their names entered into a drawing for fun prizes.

At 1 p.m., head to the Abilene Public Library to watch “The Boss Baby” movie based on the book by Frazee. The hit animated film by DreamWorks Animation is rated PG.

Frazee, Teague and Shannon are in Abilene celebrating the 20th anniversary of the NCCIL. The NCCIL gala dinner is Saturday night in the gallery. All three artists have exhibited their original artwork at the NCCIL. Shannon and Teague are both past honorees of the annual Children’s Art & Literacy Festival and have Storybook Sculptures downtown based on their characters.

Business Mercado will take place inside the Abilene Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and is free.
