Shakespeare comes to Abilene Community Theatre

News Release from Abilene Community Theatre:

ABILENE COMMUNITY THEATRE ANNOUNCES SHAKESPEARE’S MEASURE FOR MEASURE PERFORMANCES FEBRUARY 8TH THRU FEBRUARY 18TH

Abilene Community Theatre is proud to present MEASURE FOR MEASURE, written by William Shakespeare, and directed by Andrea Robison. Performances will be February 8nd thru February 18th on ACT’s Main Stage. MEASURE FOR MEASURE is generously sponsored by the Excelsior Foundation.

His city caught in a moral free-fall, the Duke of Vienna hands over power to Lord Angelo, who enforces long-dormant codes of chastity with zealous fervor. When a pious young nun pleads for the life of her condemned brother, Angelo’s response is surprisingly sensual - revealing a web of desire, deception and hypocrisy that infects every corner of society. Shakespeare’s darkest comedy tackles the twin evils of power and corruption with humor, giving hope to the hopeless and courage to the powerless, making it perhaps the most modern and relevant of Shakespeare's social comedies.

MEASURE FOR MEASURE is directed by ACT Board Member and Center for Theatre Education instructor Andrea Robison, who is assisted by Sarah Carlson.

MEASURE FOR MEASURE will be performed at Abilene Community Theatre, 809 Barrow Street, on February 8th, 9th, 10th, 16th, & 17th at 7:30pm, and a matinee performance on Sunday, February 18th at 2pm.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, and $13 for seniors, active military, and students. Tickets will go on sale for current season ticket holders on Monday, January 29th, and to the general public on Monday, February 5th. Tickets may be reserved online at http://www.abilenecommunitytheatre.org/actabilene-tickets/, or by calling the Box Office at 325-673-6271.
