Tennis Tournament in Abilene to be a Grand Slam

News Release from United State Tennis Association:

USTA Texas announced that Abilene, Texas has been selected to host the 2017 Texas Junior Grand Slam, the nation's longest continuous play tennis tournament, from June 9-17.

To determine the 2017-2019 Grand Slam site, a bid process was put in place to allow any city or organization interested in hosting the event an opportunity to present its case. A special selection committee of volunteers was formed to review all bids and ultimately select the next host city. The members of this committee were appointed by the USTA Texas President and included Management committee members as well as representatives from the Officials and Junior Tennis Council committees.

Because of the unique nature of the Grand Slam, the selection committee was tasked with analyzing the strength of the proposals as it relates to the commitment and involvement of the host community. After careful evaluation of all bids, the volunteer committee chose Abilene for its demonstrated strong partnership between the business and tennis communities.

Abilene will serve as host city for over 1,000 tennis players and their families this June for the annual event.

Registration information for the event can be found on the USTA Texas youth website, www.youthtennistexas.com.
