The 2014 Abilene Heart Walk, benefiting the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association, is set for 8:30 a.m. registration and a 9:00 start time at Grover Nelson Park. Hundreds of individual walkers and local company and community teams will be taking steps to improve their heart health while raising funds and awareness for the American Heart Association in its fight against cardiovascular diseases. This year’s Heart Walk includes a family-friendly three-mile walk, health screenings, a T-shirt design contest, entertainment, and more. Participation is free and walkers who raise money are eligible for prizes. If you raise $100 individually, you will receive an official Heart Walk T-shirt. Dance Under the Stars at Abilene State Park. Muddy Creek is the featured band. Admission is $5 for persons 13 and older. No park admission is charged. Annual state park passes are not applicable. Overnight campers are free. Light concessions will be sold by Friends of Abilene State Park. Proceeds are used to support projects and activities at the park. Public is invited!
