The Day Nursery of Abilene is planning its 6th Annual Putt "Fore" Children Miniature Golf Tournament, an annual fundraising event benefitting the Day Nursery child care program. This year’s fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, October 4th, 2014 at Primetime Family Entertainment Center in Abilene. It is a fun, fundraising event which includes families and children served by the Day Nursery of Abilene as well as others in the Abilene community. Funds generated from this event assist families with affordable, quality child care options.
Warren Taylor’s watercolors combine a complex network of layers. A base of historical art references and present day themes is topped by three-dimensional objects juxtaposed to the underlying complex flat planes, reflecting our responses to time, to the past, and to present realities. Taylor taught at Midland College for 32 years, and his work has been exhibited in the United States, China, Japan, and England. The past will come to life at Fort Griffin State Historic Site on October 10-11, 2014, as living historians from all over gather to portray life at the fort and nearby Wild West town as it was in the 1870s. You're invited to join us from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days for exciting demonstrations, education, and authentic frontier history.
Activities and interpretations will include: 1870s military interpretations with artillery, infantry, and cavalry demonstration, blacksmithing, gun fights, Drummer Boy ice cream, children’s games from the 1800s, period music by Time Was..., Native American culture and dancing, Texas longhorns, the Texas Camel Corps and Texas Camel Connection, and Traylor Livery and frontier living.
New museum & interpretive centerAs a special bonus, we will also have volunteers from Abilene's 12th Armored Division joining us this year to portray World War II history with lots of period weaponry, which they plan to demonstrate!
Museum Grand Reopening
For more than a year, the fort has been restricted due to construction. We are now back up and running, and our official grand reopening will be the same weekend as our living history event. The scheduled time for the grand reopening is 1 p.m. on October 11th.
