When Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast, he and his family moved to the tiny town of Grandfalls, right outside of Fort Stockton, Texas. He finished high school, and headed north to Lubbock. There he received his Associate's Degree from South Plains College, and decided he would keep heading north to the Panhandle. He attended West Texas A&M and received his Bachelor's Degree, while interning at Pronews 7 in Amarillo. He was known for his "Wake Up with Jacob," segments on Daybreak, which took him all over the panhandle of Texas and met some interesting people at 5 AM. But, waking up at 2:45 AM everyday, while attending school full time did him in, and when KRBC called, he decided it was time to head south to Abilene.
