Dozens of cadets across Texas are in Brownwood this week to practice their leadership skills for the ROTC.

"One hundred and seventy-two students, or cadets as we call them in the ROTC, from 25 schools converged on Howard Payne University to participate in command staff leadership laboratory," says retired airman Col. Steve Shinkle.

It is a week to hone their skills in order to help train and get cadets ready for leadership positions.

"These folks gave up part of their summer vacation while their other friends and out at the pools," says Col. Shinkle. "They're here learning about citizenship and making themselves better individuals and better humans and I think that says a lot about character."

Many cadets say it is all worth it despite the amount of stress.
