It's not the typical drilling you see in West Texas, this is drilling for water.

The heavy rains several weeks ago provided much needed water for many , but rain is inconsistent and can not be counted on, that's why Brown County has taken matters into their own hands.

The Brown County Water Improvement District began drilling for water a couple of months ago, with the hope of providing residents with an alternative to Lake Brownwood.

The lake rose five and a half feet in the last month, but prior to that, the county was considering moving into stage four water restrictions.

The drilling is a back-up plan to be sure Brown County is never put in that situation again.
