Abilene Man Charged in Graphic Sexual Assault Indicted for Additional Child Sex Crimes

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) -  An Abilene man who's been indicted on charges connected to the graphic sexual assault of two young girls appeared before a Grand Jury Thursday for additional child sex crimes.

Howard Sturgis, 56, has now been indicted on one count of Indecency with a Child by Contact and one count Indecency with a Child. Both charges are connected to incidents that happened years ago.

The first charge was issued after a victim came forward and claimed Sturgis sexually assaulted her several times a year for three years beginning in May of 2007, and the second charge was issued after an additional victim told detectives Sturgis had inappropriate sexual contact with her for years beginning when she was 8-years-old in 1993.

Sturgis was indicted last month for Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child and Indecency with a Child in connection to a graphic child sex crime case.

Sturgis and his codefendant, Chelsea Diaz, 29, are accused of subjecting two young girls to various acts of sexual abuse for years.

Court documents claim one victim told detectives the couple would make the children sniff "spray" from a rag during some of these incidents.

Sturgis is being held in the Taylor County Jail on bonds totaling $300,000.
