Just before 8 p.m., Abilene Police have located and taken Harman Benitez Junior into custody. According to police, they released tear gas into the home located on the 2000 block of Chestnut Street. He was found hiding inside a crawl space where the gas couldn't be reached. There were no injuries.

Police surrounded the home for nearly four hours. Benitez is charged with Aggravated Assault/Family Violence. Two suspects have also been arrested for hindering apprehension.

Abilene Police are searching for a man considered armed and dangerous after he allegedly shot his girlfriend Saturday morning.

Police were called out to the 700 block of Beechwood Lane before 10 a.m. Upon arrival, his 28-year-old girlfriend told police she was shot in the shoulder by Benitez. She was sent to Hendrick Medical Center under stable condition and was released few hours later.

Harman Benitez Jr., 29, has a long history of felonies. According to police, people who know Benitez said he made comments after the incident threatening to have a "shoot out" with police and that he wouldn't be taken in alive.

During a press conference Saturday afternoon, police stated that Benitez fled the scene in a tow truck where it was later located near Grape Street and Birchwood Street. Sgt. Lynn Beard says it was driven by a man named Pablo Torres. Torres was charged for hindering apprehension and felony county of possession of methamphetamine.

Benitez then fled in a black suburban where it was eventually found at an Allsup's on Pine Street. Police believe Benitez may be carrying more than one weapon.

According to a tweet from APD, an arrest warrant has been issued for Aggravated Assault/Family Violence. If anyone has information to immediately call 911.
