Alleged Sweetwater Shooter Still at Large, Person of Interest Identified

At around 1 p.m. on Friday, Sweetwater police received several 911 calls regarding a shooting in the 700 block of Bluff Street. 

When police arrived, one man was injured and the alleged shooter fled the scene. The victim was shot in the left leg near the groin. 

Chief of Police Brian Frieda has identified Eduardo Echegaray as a person-of-interest. If anyone comes in contact with Echegaray to immediately call police for he is considered armed and dangerous.

According to evidence gathered at the scene, police believe the victim was shot by a 20-gauge shotgun. 

The victim was treated at the scene and later transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater, then to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. 

Chief Frieda says the alleged shooter is still at large is believed to be driving a silver Volkswagen Jetta.
