The event was put together to provide a safe way for the community to properly dispose their old medication. Drug cleanout programs help reduce the number of poison-related deaths by offering people a legal, free and environmentally safe disposal method for unused, expired or unneeded medications.
Volunteers from the school of nursing and pharmacy helped assist the event which lasted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 43,000 people died due to poisoning in the United States in 2010.
