Getting prepared to return to the classroom is expensive for parents, but teachers, also foot the bill for many of their classroom expenses.

KRBC's Courtney Burris caught up with just one of the many teachers in our area that go the extra mile when preparing their classroom.

"You want everybody to be on the same page and not have a student left out because they can't afford school supplies, said Geraldine Willis, reading specialist at Ortiz Elementary School.

Willis says she spends at least over a thousands dollars to make sure her students are taken care of, despite the heavy price tag.

"I just love blessing these kids just becausee I know that you know, at home, maybe the water is not on, maybe they are sleeping on the floor, these things happen," Willis said.  "So if I can  make school a better place for them that they want to come to, then I have done my job."

Ortiz Elementary School is a title one school and 91 percent of students at Ortiz are considered "economically disadvantaged."
