Beloved photographer was "selfless soul" who "impacted Abilene in a tremendous way"

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Beloved Abilene photographer Doug Hodel passed away Sunday, prompting an entire community to mourn his death by honoring the life he left behind.

Chamber of Commerce President Doug Peters left the following message in memory of Hodel:

The loss of Doug Hodel is simply immeasurable. The countless hours he spent volunteering in different capacities throughout the community, the endless line of lives he impacted in such a positive way with his jovial disposition and infectious laugh, and the way he captured Abilene throughout the years is a treasure that can never be replaced.

Doug was a selfless soul whose many talents, while immeasurable, impacted Abilene in a tremendous way. Always ready with a smile, his servant heart was seen throughout the community whether he was wearing a Red Coat, or his beloved camera around his neck.

Abilene was better because of him and, while he will be missed, the scenes he captured of this community and the people that make her great, will be treasured for eternity.

I have no doubt the thoughts that always echoed his work here on earth were the first words that were uttered to him when he arrived at the pearly gates.

"Well, done, my good and faithful servant."

Funeral arrangements for Hodel have not been made public as of 12:45 p.m. Monday.
