MERKEL, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Merkel police are searching for two suspects who allegedly stole a vehicle and used a stolen credit card for fuel.
According to the Merkel Police Department, a victim returned home after running an errand at 7:45 am Saturday morning. The victim told police they would only be in the home for a few minutes, so the keys were left in the ignition. When the victim returned to the vehicle, it was gone.
"Suspects are also believed to have entered the victims open garage as well before leaving in the 2012 GMC Sierra," according to a press release from MPD.
OnStar was able to track the vehicle in Stamford. The Stamford Police Department and Haskell County Sheriff's Office assisted in recovering the vehicle at Wal-Mart, but the suspects fled.
"Prior to abandoning the vehicle, the two suspects were caught on camera in another involved vehicle and using a stolen credit card for fuel and items in the store," the press release states.
