Breckenridge Man Killed in Texas Panhandle Wildfires

BRECKENRIDGE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - A Breckenridge man is one of four people killed during wildfires in the Texas Panhandle.

Friends and family members confirm Sloan Everett lost his life while trying to save cattle in from a fire Gray County on Monday. Cody Crockett and Sydney Wallace, a young couple in their early 20s, were killed as well.

Everett was on the Board of Directors for the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce. A post to the Chamber's Facebook page leaves the following message in his memory:

Our hearts go out to the entire Everett family.

"Be encouraged by their passing and legacy. Instead of crying, live an inspired, spiritual and happy life like they did when they were here. Live each day with encouragement knowing that they are proud and smiling down on you from Heaven" ~ Matt Fraser

If you knew Sloan, you would know that is exactly what he would want you to do.

KTAB and KRBC have reached out to the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce to see if they plan to hold a memorial service for Everett. Nothing has been decided yet, but BigCountryHomepage will provide additional details as they become available.
