The city of Brownwood held their annual cleanup day over the weekend which asked residents to get rid of trash and junk around their homes.

The cleanup is held every Spring and Fall and took place under the Austin Avenue underpass. Organizers took in tires, old washers and dryers and electronics, used motor oil and metal. Also, they shredded up boxes of documents for several people.

The event which was free made sure trash was disposed of properly and helps the Keep Brownwood Beautiful project.

"About every third person that comes through here express their gratitude because it's right here in town and easy to do," says solid waste service manager Tim Airheart.

People also visited the landfill as an option to dump their items. More than 200 people showed up.
