Burglar Shot by Odessa Homeowner

(ODESSA, TX) - Police say a homeowner shot an armed suspect early Monday morning after he tried to force his way into the house.

The incident in the 3200 block of Rembrandt started just after 2:00 a.m. when the 35-year-old homeowner, Hector Garcia, saw a man attempting to kick in the front door to his residence while holding a gun.

The Odessa Police Department says Garcia fired multiple rounds at the suspect, who immediately fled the scene in a truck. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had also vandalized Garcia's vehicle.

OPD later located the suspect at Medical Center Hospital with a gunshot wound to the lower body.

Detectives are in the process of obtaining warrants from the suspect, who will be in the hospital for an undetermined amount of time. Warrants will be served upon his release.
