The city of Cisco is honoring a man who served for their fire department decades ago.

On Monday January 13th, members of the city council meeting approved an ordinance that will replace the name of the east end of 5th street to Vandell Weathers Drive.

Weathers was a Cisco firefighter who died in the line of duty in 1987 while battling battling wildland fires. Two Cisco firefighters have lost their lives in the line of duty including Weathers and Bert Strickland who died in 1909.

Both Strickland's and Weather's names are listed on the Fireman's Monument which first went up in 1896.
