Donating toys for children is always common around the holiday season. However, one hospital in Coleman County is helping in a different way. The Coleman County Medical Center has teamed up with local businesses to ask people to donate coats. This is the 1st annual coat drive for Coleman, and especially with the weather changing coats will be needed now more than ever.

The medical center and 5 other locations are accepting donations until December 16. They are asking for new or gently used coats with no holes or torn up. The local dry cleaners, Rhyder X-press is offering to dry clean all the coats for free before they are distributed to families. So far they have had 10 families already call and request coats.

However, on distribution day families are able to come by and go through all the coats. The medical center wants to make sure they have enough coats for both male and females and make sure they are age appropriate. One woman who started the coat drive explained that they choose to do a coat drive because it's something that kids will use more often than toys.

They will distribute the coats December 19 at the Tillman Community Room next to the library. They are also accepting cash donations which will be used to buy coats they need more of. During distribution they will have health information for the parents and Santa will be there for the children. The medical center says that none of this would have been possible without the help from the community.
