According to the Stamford Police Chief, an 11-year-old boy was shot by his stepfather on Tuesday, May 6, following an argument he had with the boy's mother.

24-year-old Michael Quinonez has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (family violence), felon in possession of a firearm and a prohibited weapon.

Quinonez allegedly shot the boy as he was bringing his mother a pack of cigarettes she had asked for, an action Quinonez had objected to.

KRBC's Ariana Lubelli spoke with family members of the boy who were just in the other room at the time of the shooting. His grandmother and siblings say they spent the day lighting candles and praying for his well-being.

The boy underwent surgery and remains in a Lubbock hospital.
