"It's new this year so it's a little slow going," said Lori Seymore of this year's Fill the Boot Campaign.

But, if you're still interested in making a donation to Fill the Boot, you can now use your credit and debit cards, an option new to the Abilene area.

"We have received a couple debit card donations we do take that very seriously in money handling procedures," she said.

If you're worried about how safe the new process is she said they cut no corners when dealing with your private information.

"It is a drive up procedure this year, they can just park and come in the trailer and give me the information so i can lock it up immediately," she said.

Abilene firefighter, Logan Critz said they hope this new credit card option will bring in more revenue.

"This is the first year we've had the ability to take credit cards, this is the first year I've seen that."

He added that they've still seen more cash donations than anything else.

"Most people are still just dropping cash," he said. "We had a lady out here write us a check which was really nice."

Last year, Critz said they raised about$30,000. This year they hope to exceed that but he's not sure if that will happen.

"We're not able to stand out in the street we're in the parking lot so I feel like that's gonna cut back on how much we make this year," he said.

A new city ordinance has been put into effect that no longer allows any street collecting.

Although fill the Boot is done for a good cause, everyone must play by the rules, including the fire department.

Abilene police is not cutting corners either, they are keeping a close eye on everyone.
