A family is left homeless after a fire destroys their house Sunday night.

Firefighters arrived to the home on the 1600 block of Roosevelt Street shortly after 8 p.m. The homeowners were not home at the time and no one was injured, according to the Abilene Fire Department

It took the firefighters less than an hour to extinguish the fire but at the end, the house was considered a loss. Abilene police say they initially were at the location responding to a domestic disturbance call when they spotted the smoke from the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
