The Abilene Community Theatre held a garage sale Saturday to help purchase a new air conditioner for its second building.

After a one year hiatus to revamp itself and resolve financial setbacks, the theatre has made some changes including a new board member and cleaning out the auditorium.

The new air condition unit will serve ACT's Building Two which is the location for auditions, rehearsals, and will soon house the children's theatre. All of the items at the garage sale were donated by members of the community.

Volunteers have been preparing for a week and were impressed by the turn-out.

"We want to be involved with the community," Shea Cheek, a board member said. "We need community theatre because it is a safe environment for anyone wanting to act."

Sweet Meat BBQ was there to sell food and gave 10% of its sales to support the theatre. At the end of the day, they raised $1,540.
