Going Green: Link Between Plants and Butterflies
Birds are not the only ones who fly south during the fall and winter months, Monarch Butterflies are actually quite common in West Texas. The survival rate of butterflies is less than half a percent, which is why education and prevention is so important. Kids in Abilene are getting to know how to take care of butterflies and help them survive. Cathy Downs is leading the presentation and recommends raising a few Monarchs on your own. During the fall, Monarchs need nectar to feed off of, and during the spring they need lots of milkweed. You can help out the Monarch population by having blooming plants in your yard and front porch.
