Going Green: Trading Your Lawn For Rocks

When watering your lawn becomes a little bit difficult, why not try something different.  Over the past couple of years using rocks instead of grass has become more popular in the Big Country.  Mary Smith works for Mankin and Sons Gardens in Abilene, and according to her, there are more pros than cons when it comes to using rocks.  Rocks are hard to move, so make sure to bring in a design or rough draft before purchasing supplies and putting them down.  Once you've done it, it's hard to do it over again.  Deciding which rock to use just comes down to personal preference and aesthetics.  Smith says Lava Rocks are the most popular. While sprucing up your backyard with rocks may be a lot of hard work in the beginning, experts say it will pay off in the end.
