The fun continued on Saturday, July 12th, from 8 AM to 12 PM. In the evening was street car drag racing.
Cars raced up the strip ranging from classic hot rods, to muscle cars, news Camaros and Mustangs, and pick-ups.
The races were broken up by different classes, depending on the type of car. Entry was $20 dollars per class and winners received 80% of the pot.
Many people were out there trying to win. But one man, Michael Dennett, in particular came to race his car before he was possibly deployed.
Dennett's car is a 1953 Ford F-100, that he's been working on since 2007. It was sitting in his father's field for 14 years. Dennett brought the car, fixed it up and has been racing it ever since. His car's name is, Old Blue.
And when Hot Abilene Nights approached Dennett thought it would be something nice to do before he was deployed.
Last time Dennett was deployed it was for six months. He's gone over seas around 7 times now.
Dennett is hoping to retire soon and with his free time he says he will probably work on a new car.
