The Green family, which began and owns Hobby Lobby, are devout Christians and, while they say they are not opposed to 16 out of the 20 forms of preventative birth control mandated by the Affordable Care Act, they are opposed to forms such as Plan B, Ella and IUDs, which would prevent the continuation of the pregnancy after fertilization.
Lori Windham, a 2001 ACU graduate, served as counsel for Hobby Lobby as a part of the Becket Fund which is described as “a non-profit, public-interest law firm dedicated to protecting the free expression of all religious traditions.”
The Supreme Court will also hear the case of Conestoga Wood Specialties, a company that manufactures kitchen cabinets, and was founded on conservative Mennonite beliefs, who also oppose the law.
