After Two Days of Fires, Cisco Needs More Volunteers

After two days of fighting large grass fires, Cisco fire fighters are making sure everything in the department is good to go, because if there is another fire, they could be fighting those big fires in small numbers.

Two fires that consumed well over 200 acres Thursday and Friday caused fire fighters to work anywhere from 8 to 14 hours each day trying to consume the flames. Due to the small numbers, crews worked in pairs.

There are three paid fire fighters, and 20 volunteers. Fire Chief Walter Fairbanks says that isn't enough when fire seasons hits, and they're faced with large fires. More volunteers would mean faster response and less stress on the volunteers and fire fighters.

Those interested in volunteering can drop off an application at the Cisco Fire Department.
