Area Veterans, Active Duty Personnel Invited to Annual ‘I Love America Day'

Area veterans and active duty military personnel are invited to attend “I Love America Day” at Dyess Elementary School on Friday, May 23, where they will be honored at 1 p.m. in the school gym.

Dyess Elementary 5th graders will present the program, “I Love America – The Land of the Free and The Home of the Brave” honoring the 200th Anniversary of the “Star Spangled Banner.” The program will feature students dressed as brave Americans throughout history and will include a salute to current and former members of our Armed Forces. The entire school will sing patriotic songs and wave flags in celebration of America.

A second performance of the “I Love America” program will be held this year for the Dyess Elementary kindergarten and 1st grade students and parents. Veterans are also invited to attend that program which will be on Thursday, May 22, at 1 p.m.

An all-school parade will follow the Friday program at 2:15 p.m. with Grand Marshalls Col. Michael Bob Starr, 7th Bomb Wing Commander of Dyess Air Force Base, and his wife.

The program and parade will include the flags of all branches of the military which were donated this year to Dyess Elementary School by VFW Post 6873.
