A boy was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being struck by a car Friday morning around 7:43 a.m.

The boy was allegedly walking to school when he stopped at the pedestrian crossing at North 10th, waiting for the crossing light to change.

Around the same time, a car driven by a 24-year-old woman stopped at the red light at North 10th as she was preparing to turn right on to North 10th off of Pioneer drive.

The light turned green and the crosswalk signal showed it was safe to walk, and as the child stepped onto the crosswalk, the driver made a right turn, striking the child.

The boy sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was transported to Hendrick Medical Center for treatment.

The woman and an infant in the car with her were uninjured.

It is believed the child was in the process of walking to school when the incident occurred, though this has not yet been confirmed.
