Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge recommended to the council that the man not be allowed a permit due to two assault cases still under investigation which, according to Standridge, took place while the man was operating his taxi service.
However, the man has not been charged in either case, one which was reported in 2012 and the other in 2013.
The City Council decided to uphold the permit denial due to Standridge’s recommendation. Only Councilmen Joe Spano and Anthony Williams voted against the denial due to lack of criminal charges.
Standridge says he could not provide certain details about the allegations since the cases were still under investigation; nevertheless, the Chief says that even were one of the cases to be dropped, he would still recommend the denial.
