The City of Abilene is asking citizens to participate in the current bond advisory process by submitting ideas and suggestions via email and on social media.

Ideas and suggestions can be sent via email to Citizens can also post on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #Bond2015. The ideas and suggestions will be reviewed by City Administration and the Bond Advisory Committee.

This summer, City Council appointed 16 members of the community to a Bond Advisory Committee. The Committee is tasked with creating a bond package for the May 2015 election. The Bond Advisory Committee meets with City staff once every two weeks to learn and discuss the needs of each City department. Now, the Committee and City staff would like to hear from citizens.

“This bond will directly affect the community, so it is important that Abilene residents have the opportunity to communicate their wants and needs,” said Deputy City Manager David A. Vela. “Opening the lines of communication allows us to engage with residents, and build a community of the highest quality for present and future generations.”

Municipal bonds are issued for the purpose of financing the infrastructure needs of the City. Projects that will serve the City for the long-term are considered. Projects with short-term benefits and operational costs are generally not considered.
