New research reveals access to guns is linked to an increase in suicide and murder.
Scientists analyzed 15 studies in which gun access was firmly established and which did not include accidental gun-related deaths.
People with access to firearms were three times more likely to commit suicide and nearly twice as likely to be the victim of a homicide than those with no access.
The study showed large gender differences as well.
Men who could get a gun had much higher suicide rates than those without gun access, while women were more likely to be a victim of homicide.
