Taylor Bowman, 17, of Ballinger, was tragically killed in a vehicle accident on Wednesday night. Ballinger locals say that Bowman made a positive impact on those she was around. The day after the tragedy, the town of Ballinger looked much like it would as if it were a football Friday. Many folks were decked out in Bearcat red and black to show support of the beloved teenager.

"A leader, a dynamic individual all the way around," is how Toby Virden, a family friend, describes Taylor.

Taylor Bowman's life was tragically cut short, but those who knew her say she lived each day to the fullest.

"Taylor is an awesome kid. I don't think God makes many kids like her, to be honest with you. I have been a principal for twelve or thirteen years and I have been in education for twenty years and I haven't met many kids like her," explains Ballinger High School principal Mike Carter.

The list of sports and activities she was involved with is lengthy. She was a cheerleader, played basketball and softball, ran track and cross country, and competed in UIL academic competitions. People say she always gave 110% in everything she did.

"Her determination, her drive, and her competitive spirit were second to none," says Toby Virden.

Virden has known Taylor and her family for years. His children grew up with Taylor, and he has broadcasted many of her games. He is also the Police Chief in the city of Miles, and heard of the wreck over the scanner, but did not realize this accident would hit so close to home.

"When I found out, my heart sunk and it hasn't risen since because words won't describe what an ambassador that not only Ballinger, but our entire area has lost in Taylor," says Virden.

Perhaps the feeling around town after this tragedy is best summed up by the weather the following day. "As I awoke this morning,  I looked outside and thought this atmosphere kind of fits the way our Ballinger citizens and kids are feeling, just kind of gloomy today with the loss of Taylor," says Jeri Smith.

Funeral arrangements for Taylor are still pending.
