On February 1, a burglary at a daycare center, located in the 2500 block of North 12 Street, was reported to the Abilene Police Department, and officers with the Patrol Division responded to the call. Their preliminary investigation revealed that the facility had been forcibly entered, an office had been ransacked, and that checks, as well as a company van, had been stolen. During the ongoing investigation, a possible suspect was identified from intelligence information related to other crimes, including crimes involving forgery.
Patrol Division officers Brian Poynor and Jason Neyhart sought out to locate and find the stolen vehicle which they believed was going to be in Christopher D. Horn’s (DOB: 10/24/87) possession. On the afternoon of February 4, 2014, Officers Poynor and Neyhart obtained further information concerning the whereabouts of the stolen van. They located the van as it was driving away from a business. Officers stopped the van in the 4500 block of S. 1st Street and detained the driver; he was the sole occupant. Detectives with Criminal Investigation Division’s Fraud Unit were summoned to the scene to assist.
The van was confirmed to be the stolen company vehicle and Horn, who was driving the vehicle, was arrested. The investigation also revealed that some electronics located in the van were confirmed to have been purchased fraudulently with stolen checks. Horn was searched and a baggie of marijuana was located in his pocket. Horn lied about his identity on several occasions during the investigation. Horn was eventually positively identified. Horn was arrested for the following three offenses: felony Theft (of the motor vehicle), misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana and misdemeanor Failure to Identify. His bond was set at $12,000.
This is an ongoing investigation. This case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for their consideration of charges.
