Deer season begins Saturday morning, November 2nd. Many local hunters look forward to this day all year.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department estimates that there will be an above average deer population this season. Brent Stephens, owner of Stephens Wild Game Processing, says that the deer he has seen this far have all been healthier than years past, even though Texas is still under heavy drought conditions.

Stephens explains that beginning Saturday around nine o'clock begins his busiest season of the year. White Tail Deer meat makes up 90% of his processing business.

The Shootin' Shop owner, Patrick Cowen, explains that beginning about a month out from opening day, he experiences an increase in sales. Some customers come in to get their guns checked out before this big weekend, but he also averages around twenty to thirty new firearm sales during this time.
