Farmer's Market Brings Fresh Food To Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KRBC) - Abilene's Farmer's Market is open now on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 7:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m.

Farmers and ranchers bring local, homegrown produce and meat to sell on 1st Street near Frontier Texas in downtown Abilene.

Some farmers have been seeing smaller fruit this season and vegetables that haven't been able to grow due to weather setbacks, such as severe weather or small freezes.

But Abilene residents and customers of the Farmer's Market still say it gives them a unique taste of Abilene.

"I think there is just something special about organic and home grown and just you don't have all the chemicals and all of that"

And buying into local grown food is a great way to immerse themselves in Big Country culture.

"It's just a great place to come and get a community spirit and support people that are growing in our area"

Saturdays are their biggest day where there are more local vendors that bring home baked goods, produce, hormone-free meat, candles, jams, and more.
