Along with new jobs, the West Texas oil boom is bringing a boost to the local economy, and some Abilene businesses are already feeling the impact. KRBC's Nora Hartfeil looked into how the oil industry and the plastic surgery industry are more connected than you'd think.

While workers out in the West Texas oil fields are pumping, folks back in town are plumping, nipping, and tucking.

"We have progressively been growing every year in terms of the number of people getting plastic surgery", says Dr. Laura Bennett of Image Sculptors.

Abilene could soon be getting a face lift.

"Because of the oil industry, we have that protected growth here. We are very specialized and have a good economy", Dr. Bennett explains.

As black gold ripples spread through much of the Big Country, Abilene's economy is expected to get a makeover in all areas of business, including plastic surgery.

"Even if they have a little more money in their pockets, they may be more willing to try", says Dr. Bennett.

With more money flowing through Abilene's veins, and more expendable income expected, procedures like injections, face lifts and breast augmentations are expected to perk up.

Whether it's a little nip here or a tuck there, in the midst of the Cline Shale oil boom, many people will be getting work done.
