After a long wait, Sophia Martinez is finally the proud owner of a new home. Habitat for Humanity and First Baptist Church of Abilene teamed up, along with many community volunteers to give the Martinez family a brand new home.

Construction began on the home in the parking lot of First Baptist Church and was later moved to its current location in North Abilene.

First Baptist Church Pastor for Missions, John Moore, says that the church members have loved seeing this project come together and feel joyful to be able to help out.

Steven Leggett, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity, explains that although the construction days are fun, the days where the home is actually blessed and given to the new homeowners is a really special day for everyone involved.

Sophia Martinez expressed that she is so thankful and feels blessed to have a home that she can call her own. She says she looks forward to watching her son grow up, as well as holidays in their new home.

Martinez and her seven year old son are expected to move into the home the first week of February.
