Icy Treats Served in February

Local Snow Cone Stand Opens Early

ABILENE, Texas (KRBC)- Although spring time is a few weeks away, a local snow cone stand decided to open up a few weeks early!

Show Cones 2 located off of Sayles and South 14th, officially held their grand re-opening on Sunday from 2 PM until 8 PM.

Jason Ligom, owner of Show Cones, told KRBC that due to popular demand, they decided to open up early, which ended up working out due to the warm weather.

"It's crazy to think I'm getting my daughter a snow cone in February, but it's the perfect weather!" Said Lacie Piper, a local who loves snow cones.

Although there are over 13 other snow cone stands in Abilene, Show Cones was the only one to open early.

"All of the other 13 stands have really good people but we will all open up at different times, so we did decide to jump the gun and open up and we weren't sure if it was going to work out." Explained Ligom.

Luckily for them, it did!

There were guests already lined up minutes prior to their grand re-opening and a line was to the street hours after.

"Last year we had a couple of records of over a two hour wait, but now we are trying to be more efficient so hopefully people won't have to wait that long!" Said Ligom.

Show Cones apparently has the softest ice in town.

"A lot of people say our ice is soft and smooth which makes the perfect snow cone." Added Ligom.

The coolest part about Show Cones is that people are encouraged to "design" their very own snow cones.

"I love sour spray and gummy worms, and I am a huge Spongebob fan, so I named it the Alaskan Bullworm!" Said Sam Ritz, a Student at McMurry University.

Her creation was simply just pink lemonade syrup, gummy worms and sour spray!

Allowing people to create their own snow cone and write it on the board outside makes Ligom's job that much sweeter.

"We had one kid last year that it changed his whole day, because he got to make his own flavor and he saw someone order it after him." Explained Ligom.

The snow cone stand will be open for at least six months and they plan to have more people create their very own snow cones.
