Infinite Energy has been sending out emails to their customers warning them of a phone scam where the caller claims to be collecting payments on behalf of the utility.

The caller requests a payment through a third-party service such as Green Dot; however, Infinite Energy emphasizes they do not use Green Dot services.

Most importantly, any call from Infinite Energy will include a verification of the customer’s account.

Here are some tips provided by Infinite Energy has provided for determining whether the call is a scam:
  • They request what seems like a very large amount of money
  • The amount of money requested is a round number, such as $1,400.00
  • The phone number is unlisted
  • The payment method is not officially accepted by Infinite Energy—Infinite Energy offers a variety of payment options which are listed online in the “Contact Us” section and on the back of monthly invoices.
If you are a customer and receive a suspicious call, hang up, and dial Infinite Energy directly.
