County Sheriff Patrick Toombs gave a tour to a few locals after the cornerstone ceremony, explaining what upgrades were needed and how the new building will save the county money.
The new jail will hold over 70 inmates, compared to the current jail's 16 capacity. This means inmates being housed in other counties, costing money, can be moved back to Mitchell County.
Updates will ensure power in case of an outage, provide better conditions for employees and inmates and provide more security throughout the building.
