When asking people what intersections in Abilene they think are most dangerous, many had quick responses.

Abilene citizen , Lori Parker, said "Two intersections are right here on Buffalo Gap and Danville and the one on Southwest Drive and Danville."

Many others agree with her, including APD Traffic Officer, Brian Trail. Officer Trail typically responds to anywhere from eight to fifteen wrecks during a normal work week. He said there are a few areas around town where he responds to often. Buffalo Gap at Danville and Clack, Southwest Drive at Danville and Clack all topped the list of areas where he sees the most wrecks.

Officer Trail also mentioned that he is beginning to notice that there has been an increase in collisions on Highway 351 just past the Wal-Mart on the North side of town.

Officer Trail said that these intersections are not, however, where the majority of wrecks occur in icy conditions. At the beginning of any icy weather event, most of the accidents occur on the higher speed roads such as Loop 322 and Winters Freeway.

In the past few weeks, Officer Trail said he responded to three wrecks back to back to back at the intersection of Buffalo Gap and Danville involving drivers not following turn lane signs. He explained that drivers in the left turn lane chose to go straight instead of turning, causing them to crash into the vehicle in the turn or straight lane.

Citizens and law enforcement both agree that Abilene would be a safer place if drivers would just slow down and pay attention to their surroundings.
