The only question that comes to Kat Dulley's mind after finding out that Walmart is proposing to build a third store in town is, "Why?"

"I don't know where it would be but I don't know why we would need a third Walmart, she said. "I mean that would only be a couple minutes from my house - but I still don't understand why we need any more Walmarts."

Jon James is Director of Planning and Development for the City of Abilene. James confirms that the retail giant has its eyes set on Abilene, yet again.

Walmart wants to build a third store here at the empty lot at Oldham Lane and Loop 322. "We received an application for a site plan, which is our process of any new commercial development submits a plan to us proposing what they propose on a site," said James. "We use that to confirm that they meet all of the city's development regulations."

The City of Abilene said that it's still in the preliminary stages and did not give a time line they said it could be months or even years, before construction begins, but one thing is for certain; a third Walmart is coming to Abilene.

Crystal Branco says that another Walmart in Abilene is a good thing.  It would mean quicker trips to the store at the same low prices that Walmart offers.

"A lot of people find it hard, especially with their not being any grocery stores around there, it would be a good addition," says Branco. "I'm m fine with it because I live off of Beltway so that might be closer."

Kat Dulley said she can't help but wonder if a retailer like Walmart, with two locations already in Abilene, over 4 thousand stores nation wide, plus a net worth of over 446 billion dollars is being a bit opportunistic. "I think sometimes, yes, but bottom line, I mean obviously, I shop at Walmart because the prices are so much lower, it's kind of a give and take... I guess," says Dulley.
