Beginning in the 2014 school year, Abilene High School will be bumped up to the new 6A classification. Six-Man football will be considered 1A, and what was 1A will become 2A and so on.
Cooper High School will not be moved up with larger schools and will remain in the 5A classification.
Many Cooper High students think that not moving up will give them an advantage, especially in certain sports. Some Abilene High students are excited to move up in classification and play larger schools, however, some realize that it will be a tough challenge to compete against new opponents.
