The TELL Texas Survey is part of House Bill 2012 passed last year by the Texas Legislature, which requires the Texas Education Agency to develop an online teaching and learning conditions survey to be administered statewide biennially to teachers, principals, counselors and other school-based professional staff. The anonymous survey will provide valuable data for schools and districts to use in improvement planning.
“This survey is a chance for educators to share information about the professional development and learning supports provided at their campus and in their district,” said Commissioner Williams. “Every educator’s response is an essential component to helping improve the learning environment all Texas teachers should expect in the years ahead.”
During the survey period (April 7 – May 5), educators will be able to access the survey using a unique, anonymous access code that will be included in the materials mailed to each principal the week before the survey begins. Questions included on the survey cover a range of teaching conditions such as instructional practices and support, time, school and teacher leadership, facilities and resources, community engagement, professional development, managing student conduct and new teacher support.
The survey will be administered by the New Teacher Center (NTC), a national organization dedicated to supporting the development of a high-quality teaching force. NTC has conducted similar surveys in other states, and since 2009 has heard from more than one million educators.
State, district, and school results will be posted on the TELL Texas web site approximately five weeks after the close of the survey for schools who have at least 50 percent of educators and five staff members responding. A separate survey of school superintendents will occur later this year.
